Upstairs office colours
These are the colours I'm planning to paint the upstairs office. Left is Behr Toffee Crunch and right is F&B Mahogany (may as well use up the the paint I already have!!)
The plan is to paint one accent wall in Mahogany -- not sure if it'll be the wall that the desk is on or the one wall in the room that doesn't have a doorway or window. If I do that, then I plan to create a sort of gallery wall with two Lack shelves and pictures. People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |

RE: Upstairs office colours
I love colours like this!
I would recommend painting the desk wall in the mahogany... it seems to me that, without a colour, the desk wall would be the focal wall - so it should get the colour. Is the desk a dark brown? Looking forward to pics! Edin Design - Home remodeling is fun! |

RE: Upstairs office colours
Thes desk is a sort of yellowy-orangey oak. Not my favourite, but it looks OK with the two colours.
The Mahogany paint is matte -- would you do the Toffee Crunch paint in matte as well, or eggshell?? People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |

RE: Upstairs office colours
I know you're using paint that you have around the house...
How did you use the Mahogany before? I ask because I'm personally not sure about using a matte finish in this colour. BUT... if you're sure it will work, then I'd suggest keeping all the walls matte. I think it would look funny if your Toffee Crunch was eggshell. You'd have a sheen on three of your four walls... doesn't sound good to me. Question: Could you mix your paint with a little glaze to give it a bit of sheen? What are the chances that you could paint the desk in a dark brown? OR... you could paint it in the Toffee Crunch... that would look good on the Mahogany wall! Edin Design - Home remodeling is fun! |

RE: Upstairs office colours
Too late, Mahogany wall is done!! I don't know if I could have added glaze -- it's F&B paint, would glaze work with clay-based paint??
Haven't bought the Toffee Crunch yet -- I'm wavering a little I really like BM Norwester Tan -- a friend used this colour in her home office, and it looks fantastic. Comparing NT and TC, the colours are actually quite similar -- NT is a bit more caramely. The trim in the office will be BM Cloud White -- it'll work better with the warm wall colours, I think. Actually, our family room accent wall is matte and all the other walls are eggshell. The different finishes aren't noticeable, and they look fine together. So not sure why I asked that question, come to think of it!! I've considered painting the desk -- don't think I'm in the frame of mind to do it at the moment, though. Too many other painting jobs that have higher priority -- the office furniture can't go back into the office till the walls are painted, and I'm tired of seeing it sitting in the kitchen!! RE: Upstairs office colours
So... how does the accent wall look?!
Do you like it? The idea of a dark wall in a matte colour intregues me... might look really contemporary. Does it look cool and hip?! Not sure if a glaze can be used with a clay-based paint... you could ask at the store where you bought the F&B... if you want to try one more coat of Mahogany for that little bit of sheen, of course. If your family room walls look good, then I'm sure this room will look good if you opt for an eggshell for the other 3 walls! So... which of the two colours will it be?! RE: Upstairs office colours
It looks YUMMY!!! I swear, the paint is just like chocolate pudding!!
Hubby is painting the trim Cloud White this very minute Once that's done, I'll paint the other three walls. Hopefully, I'll be done by Friday.I'm going to buy new blinds -- maybe matchstick or 2" wood in brown. I'll reuse the light fixture with cobalt blue shades, and I have a desk lamp with a cobalt blue shade too. Hubby calls it the Pixar lamp, 'cause it's sort of the same shape as the lamp that bounces around at the beginning of Pixar movies People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |
