The Plaster-Guy is Coming!
DH just informed me that J.C. the Plaster-Guy will be working on our living room next Monday and Tuesday!!

JC-PG will repair all the areas with damaged plaster, like here:

And he'll skim coat the remaining living room walls so that they're smooth and ready for paint!

He'll also incorporate curves into the three corners of the doorways between the living room, dining room and hallway (shown here)

The curves will mimic the curves in the top part of our living room's walls:

Finally... JC-PG will mud & tape (etc.) the drywall in our "hallway" so DH doesn't have to!!! This means this these walls, as well as the already finished dining room walls, will be ready for us to install the panelled wainscotting Cheesy Grin

So... I may be painting the living room soon!!! Yay!

RE: The Plaster-Guy is Coming!
I'm feeling a little bummed...

JC-PG asked DH to supply the forms required to create the curves in the corners. I'm a little perplexed by this because it seems to me that this is something JC-PG should supply. Anyway... DH searched high and low on Friday and couldn't find anything anywhere. He went to speciality drywall supply stores and they told him that they didn't stock things like this. WTF?!

So that means that we have to make something.
BUT... DH has been working all weekend. That means that the forms won't be made in time for JC-PC to do my corners Cries

I found this inspiration photo to show you and JC-PG what I wanted (in a slightly smaller version, however).

Doesn't it look good with my coved ceiling?!

DH and I will try and add them ourselves later this week...
Darn!!

Oh, bummer Sad I know how you feel -- you're all excited about getting another project done, and then you run into a roadblock. Boooo!!!!

But don't worry, it'll all work out in the end Icon_smile

So you actually have to make the curved piece that will get plastered over?? Can you use styrofoam for that??

WTF!!!!
I just don't understand... I Don't Know

JC-PG showed up at 8am this morning as planned. He pulled up to the front of the house and, knowing that he had scaffolding and other stuff to haul up to the house, I suggested he pull around back and park in the driveway. It's far easier to unload from the back. So he does... stops in the alley, gets out of his van and looks at the drive. I'm at the back door... I wave and say "Hi, just back in". I leave the back door open and head back in to finish getting ready for work. A few minutes later, thinking JC-PG has had time to pull in and start unloading stuff, I go to the door only to see...

that JC-PG's gone!

I walk to the front of the house to check if he's parked out there after all... nothing.

I wait 10 minutes and try to call him. His phone goes directly to voice mail.

After 30 minutes of waiting (and now I'm seriously late for work), I leave.

Either he didn't like the parking situation or he didn't like that I walked away and left him to park... I just don't know!!???

And why a man would walk away from BIG BUCKS (really!) for 2 days work just like that... I'm totally perplexed! I Don't Know

Needless to say, I'm looking for another plaster craftsman!!

What a flake!!! WTF was his problem?!?!?!

Don't worry, you'll find someone. And if you don't, I'm sure you and DH can handle a bit of plastering and curves!! Icon_smile

RE: The Plaster-Guy is Coming!
We pulled the sofa and TV back into the living room so that we could have a place to sit and watch our favourite show last evening - Heros!

Not sure when we'll be able to get this darn work done. Fuming Cries
Paul the Plaster Guy will be by on Wednesday afternoon to give DH a quote on the job... if he likes him and gives him the job, my fingers are crossed he can start right away!! Cross your fingers, too!! Thumbs Up Of course, we're at the mercy of his (or any other plaster guy we end up working with) schedule Sad

Are you kidding?!?!??! Surprise

That is totally insane.

You and DH really should consider doing the work yourselves, 'cause at this rate, you'll NEVER get it done!!
