The guest bedroom is happening
I am so psyched!!!! The wall went up today for the new guest bedroom that we are ultimately creating for my niece but at the end of the day we will finally have a guest bedroom. We cut the floor, I love saying we....
![]() That means I get to start the real fun....decorating...on the weekend. So now I am trying to nail this colour thing down. I am thinking about blue but wonder if that will be too cold in the basement...I am going to sew the duvet cover and there is so much to choose from in fabric that I now wonder if I should go with a plain cover and a patterned headboard?? The drapes are cream and underneath I am putting a rattan/bamboo blind. Any suggestions? I have included some photos of the space and what I have to work with right now. "Less is more" |

RE: The guest bedroom is happening
Looking good Donna. I am currently about halfway, actually I lie, just in the talking, thinking and more talking phase of my guest room reno. Not sure I can offer much advice, but I was going with plain colour bedding with the patterns in the pillows and/or headboard. Alternatively, I was thinking of a plain upholstered headboard with some interesting nailheads or buttons or piping.

RE: The guest bedroom is happening
Did you think of perhaps having the drapes in a heavier fabric and placing a banding of fabric to complement the duvet cover?

RE: The guest bedroom is happening
Yeah I like the idea with the drapes. They are actually really heavy, although they do not appear so in that photo. I am pretty handy with a sewing machine so I could manage that quite easily. I was afraid that a pattern in the headboard would become tiresome after awhile. OMG this is where it all falls apart for me!!! Gotta think this part through. Too many choices!

RE: The guest bedroom is happening
Your guest room is on its way!!
Check out the Restoration Hardware web site for headboard inspiration. Try configuring some beds with the different fabrics (plain and patterned) to get a feel for how the two looks compare. http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/ca...cat1537115 I'm making an upholstered bed with brown velvet. The headboard will be a simple shape, and I'm going to put use nailhead trim to add some detail. The curtains will be striped, the bedding will be plain with a bit of shimmery detail (assuming I can find the duvet cover teucer found for me in king size). So in my room, the pattern will be on the curtains and throw pillows, the bed and bedding will be plain. Does that help at all?? People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |

You bet it does. It all helps. Details are not my strong point...I am a big ideas type of person if you know what I mean. I seem to be able to give my opinion...
Anyway, I got lighting to replace the bad fluorescent light...6 pot lights. They are a nice size and apparently according to my partner do not cost a fortune to replace bulbs. Anyway, now I have to come up with a pattern for the lights. There are six.....what do I do???? Should I stagger them...a row of two...next row of 2 staggered between light one and 2 and then the third row of two lined up with the first...... x x x x x x "Less is more" |

OMG!!!!
I LOVE your Calin comment!! I'm from Quebec, so I'm up on all the French swear words I get what you mean by staggering the pot lights. To be honest, I don't know how pot lights should be laid out Are you still planning to hang the chandelier in the room?? RE: The guest bedroom is happening
Hey Smoodgie!!!
Well, he wants to put in the lights this morning. I am working from home so that I can answer any questions. It really is such a small space that I am thinking everything gets covered by the light really. Diamond pattern sounds interesting, There is the one side that has a narrow section in front of the tiny closet. Maybe I need one over there or even two. I could make a sort of cross formation and then go with two over the longer L part of the room.
