The chandelier is garbage
I just opened the chandelier -- it's a piece of crap Evil It comes in individual "branches" that you have to put together. The first one I opened, there are scratches and scuff marks on the "crystals", and one of them even has a chip out of it. No way in hell are these Swarovski crystals, which the vendor said they are. I'm pretty sure they're not even any sort of crystal -- they look like plastic.

I guess when a deal is too good to be true, it is Doh

What should I do?? Contact the seller and tell them I'm refusing the item?? I sure don't want to keep it -- it's not at all what it's supposed to be Cries

OMG! Send it back! (can you?) A put-together chandelier? Oh no....Cries

Do not keep it if there's any way you can return it.

RE: The chandelier is garbage
I'm so pissed off for you! Fuming

The photo you shared with us was exactly the same as the chandelier I saw here - exactly the same, Smoodgie... it WAS NOT a put-together chandelier with plastic "chrystals"!

What I'm suggesting here is that the photo they shared was not the chandelier they sold you... and that's false advertising big time! Definitely research your rights with this purchase. I can't imagine that E-Bay would support venders selling crap for big bucks when they've advertised said item as quality. E-Bay's reputation would be at stake. I'd get in touch with them for sure - even if it's as easy as refusing the item and sending it back to the vender... they should know that this particular seller is a scam artist!

I'm so very sorry, Smoodgie!! Cries

RE: The chandelier is garbage
I checked the vendor's record before I bid on the chandelier -- over 3,000 positive feedbacks. Either they sell their crap to idiots or there's something fishy going on.

I wrote to the vendor and asked specifically if the crystals were Swarovski or European (those are the two options they come in). The reply was Swarovski. No freakin' hell are these crystals Swarovski -- I have some little Swarovski crystal animals, and the crystal is sparkly and pristine. These crystals are garbage. Every one of them has scuff marks, scratches, and/or dings. And that's on ONE branch.

And yes, you have to put the whole chandelier together yourself. WTF??

Oh frig -- I just read their return policy:

RE: The chandelier is garbage
hey Smoodgie.
I cannot remember what you paid for this but I feel really bad for you.......have you contacted them to tell them about the damaged goods part of the deal? Well, we all know how ebay works. So you are going to have to alert other buyers about this seller by filling in a really bad review on them. I would be very honest in your review.

Contact them though first and see how serious they are as ebay sellers. Sometimes when they know what is coming, bad review, they may be more flexible......or not.Rolleyes

RE: The chandelier is garbage
that really sucks. I was so excited for you and started looking on ebay for chandeliers too. I'm sure you can contact the vendor and talk to them about it. They usually don't want bad ratings online and might be willing to accomodate you.

RE: The chandelier is garbage
Hubby thinks it's a waste of time and money and effort to try to return the chandelier. He thinks we should try to clean up the crystals as best we can, and then we'll probably hang it in the entryway. I've been wanting to replace that chandelier anyway, and I think this one is a good size for the space. My theory is that because the entryway has a vaulted ceiling, the chandelier will hang high enough that the marks on the crystals won't be noticeable.

I'm also going to write to the seller and complain that the chandelier is NOT Swarovski crystal, which they told me it is. And then I'm giving the seller negative feedback.

Oh, BTW, the seller is WeGotLites. Stay away from them!!!! Evil

RE: The chandelier is garbage
Well, this is a bit surprising -- I sent my complaint e-mail to WeGotLites at around 4:30, and there was a message from them on the voicemail when I got home from work around 5:30. I called them back, fully expecting to have a fight on my hands. But luckily, no need to pull out the big guns -- the guy said that he checked the packing slip, and saw that they had sent a fixture with the European crystals instead of the Swarovski crystals. Don't know if that's true or if he's just covering his ass, but he said to send back all the European crystal branches and keep the body of the chandelier, and he'll send me a set of the Swarovski crystal branches. He also e-mailed me a return label for DHL, which presumably means I don't have to pay for the shipping.

This makes me wonder about a lot of things.... do they knowingly ship out low-quality stuff and hope people don't notice?? How do people who order the chandelier with the European crystals feel when they see the lousy quality?? Why would they even send out chandeliers with crappy crystals, whether or not the customer ordered them?? I Don't Know

So we'll see what happens.... I'm going to try to get the box shipped out to them tomorrow. The sooner, the better!!

I'll keep you posted.....

RE: The chandelier is garbage
Certainly nice to hear they got back to you right away. I suspect your instincts are right, send the crap and double back for those that notice. Either way, I guess you're ahead of the game for now. I hope the 'new' crystals work out...........Big Grin

RE: The chandelier is garbage
Dammit. Hubby found out that we can't ship the package from Canada. We have to drive down to the US to ship it, and then drive down AGAIN to pick up the replacement Evil

Why is nothing ever simple?!??!?!
