RE: Letter art for the office walls
What's even cooler is that the wall with the window is reflected in the mirror on the opposite wall, so it's like there are letters on that wall too but I didn't have to paint them!!
![]() Sometimes I wonder why I have to get these crazy decorating ideas..... Anyway, the painting is almost done and I'm really happy with how it looks. And painting the letters wasn't TOO painful -- just took a lot of patience and a steady hand!! I can't wait to get the room together -- probably won't happen till October, though, after the floor is refinished. Which brings me to a question... would you go light or dark on the floor?? The armchair is dark purple, the console is dark brown, the desk is frosted glass with a walnut base, and the desk chair is white. RE: Letter art for the office walls
If it were me, I'd go dark with a lighter area rug on it... especially since it's a parquay floor. In re-looking at your photos, I just can't visualize a lighter floors knowing that the furniture will be darker.
Did you keep that rug you bought for the space? I liked that rug! Question... when will a ceiling go in? Edin Design - Home remodeling is fun! |

RE: Letter art for the office walls
The letters are DONE. Still some touching up to do, but nothing too major. I also have to give the other walls one more coat of paint.
I was planning to go dark on the floor, but then I started to wonder if light might be better. But yeah, I'm going to go with dark -- it'll work better with the dark furniture and make the room feel cozier, I hope!! Yep, the striped carpet I bought a while back will be going into the room ![]() No idea when the ceiling will go up -- hubby did ask me what kind of ceiling I want, so at least he's onboard about doing it!! RE: Letter art for the office walls
I recommend using the same stain for flooring throughout the house...it unifies it all. For some reason it bugs me when the stain changes...sorry...just my opinion.

RE: Letter art for the office walls
I hear ya, Cdngirl... but 1) this is Smoodgie's basement and at a distance from the main floor hardwood (which is all the same colour) and 2) is parquet (the main floor is oak with beautiful inlayed cherry strips) and so different already. So I feel that she can get away with a different - but complimentary colour... and I vote for dark!
Smoodgie... if you're going to get your words in decals, what will you do with the few words you've already painted? Will you paint over them in the backgroud paint? Have you ordered the decals? Still loving this room!! Edin Design - Home remodeling is fun! |

RE: Letter art for the office walls
The basement flooring is already different from the flooring on the main floors -- there's carpet in one area and laminate in another area. The office and one other small room in the basement have parquet flooring, and both will be stained the same colour. So I'm not really concerned about the parquet in these two rooms matching the wood on the main floor. I'm still leaning towards dark for these two rooms.
Yes, I'll paint over the words I've already painted and use the vinyl lettering for all the words. Question -- do you think all the words should be the same size letters, or adjust the letter size according to the first letter of the word?? For example, the C that will be the first letter in Create is bigger than the h that will be the first letter in happy. Should the lettering for both words be the same size, or should the lettering for happy be smaller?? I'm planning to order the letters tonight. Without that reference... I'd say all the same size. A little continuity in the large/medium/small letter world that is your wall might be nice (not that the world isn't already nice on its own!). RE: Letter art for the office walls
My original design had different sizes for the words. Measuring the letters on the wall, most words are either 5" or 6" and one or two are 7". So, I think I'll go with 6" for everything.
Now I have to pick a font -- I can't get the same font that I used for the big letters. I've narrowed it down to Century Gothic and Tahoma. Which do you think looks better: Century Gothic Tahoma I'm planning to go with a metallic silver vinyl for the letters. Too OTT, or OK??
