Guest bedroom
Sorry, the pictures are kinda lousy -- it's hard to get a good angle because the room is so small. And I think the pattern on the wallpaper messes with the camera a bit!!
Here's the wall with the wallpaper: And the room with the furniture moved in: I can't dress a bed to save my life I still need to get a curtain rod. I was thinking a mirror behind the lamp on the night table that's big enough to go to the same height as the highboy to balance the two sides of the bed. I'm planning to replace all the knobs on the furniture with crystal knobs -- assuming we can figure out how to make the ones I bought at Lee Valley fit. I need accessorizing help!!! And any other suggestions that you can think of to kick up the glam factor a notch or two. People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |

RE: Guest bedroom
Smoodgie... I think this room turned out wonderfully!! Congratulations!!
How was hanging the wallpaper?! Thoughts... If the perfect-colour skirt doesn't come longer, then I like the idea of adding to it with either a grosgrain ribbon or some beads like you've suggested. BUT... I think what ever you choose should be in gray, not purple. Love the idea of a mirror behind the lamp to balance out the high-boy. I feel it should be a dark brown frame, though... again to keep the balance. The glass knobs from Lee Valley... you just need to countersink them. Have DH grab his drill and make the holes larger... but only as long as required. Hope that makes sense! As for your headboard... I have to say that I'm not crazy about the idea of white. What do you think about keeping the dark wood (to work with the other furniture) and then covering the tan microfibre panel with a purple velvet?! As soon as I saw your photo I loved the gray bedding but visualized the headboard in purple! The same colour as the throw pillow The wall colour looks terrific with the wallpaper, by the way! Loving this room!!!

RE: Guest bedroom
Hanging the wallpaper was..... well, sort of a PITA. The main annoyance is that it didn't come prepasted, so I had to roll on the adhesive before hubby hung the strips. I didn't have anything to do with the hanging, I just sponged off some of the adhesive after it went up. Hubby did a good job matching up the pattern and butting the seams. Although the pattern is slightly askew. Hubby insists it was printed crooked on the paper
![]() I'm going to look for a mirror tomorrow -- I need one that's about 32" high. Fingers crossed!! I'll also be on the hunt for a few blingy things. Not sure what, but I want some sparkly stuff I have this chair that fits nicely in the corner next to the dresser. Do you think it's worth getting it re-covered?? And if yes, what colour?? Maybe a dark gray microfibre with silver nailhead trim?? I get the countersinking idea -- that should work I also need to get shorter screws.Yeah, the white headboard is a bit too stark. So that pinky will go back to HS tomorrow. In fact, I have quite a load of items to return tomorrow!! People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |

Re: shorter screws - DH just cuts his with a hack saw, holding on to the screw with his plyers
The chair is great - covered in a microfibre the same colour as the drapes would look perfect! Love the idea of nailheads, too. Looking forward to pics of blingy stuff! Edin Design - Home remodeling is fun! |

RE: Guest bedroom
OK, here are today's buys, starting with a small mirrored jewelry box (sorry about the flash):
I found THREE bedskirts at The Bay!! Unfortunately, the $20 one isn't the right shade of gray, but the other two are both great and it's going to be hard to decide. Changing the skirts is a PITA, so for how, here's a pic of the gray one that's currently on the bed: And the purple one sitting in top of the bed: And I LOVE these purple shams!! They're the same purple as the bedskirt: And I bought this mirror at HomeSense. I'll probably return it, because it really doesn't seem to fit with what's going on with the rest of the room. I had a thought, though -- I have a piece of purple heartwood that I had to buy because, well, it's purple!! We have a piece of mirror in the basement, so.... maybe we could make a mirror using the purple heartwood for the frame?? AND... here are some fabric samples I picked up for the chair. None of them are cheap -- in fact, three are over $100/yd People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |

RE: Guest bedroom
I like the bedskirt and box. The shams are pretty too. I'd agree with losing the mirror. I like the last two fabric swatches.
Have you considered a couple of cubes, a bench or folding luggage rack? It's always good to have something to put your luggage on instead of the floor. The rack might be best if you're stuck for space. |

RE: Guest bedroom
Heya Smoodgie,
Originally I was all for a completely gray bed... but now I'm totally liking the purple bedskirt with the shams! What I particularly like about the shams is that the pattern reflects the darker purple, too. I totally believe you should search out a darker purple for the headboard. It would look so wonderful to have the bed floating on the paler purple and grounded with the darker headboard and tied together with the shams with both purples! By the way... LOVE the new silky gray pillow!!! But I'm not crazy about the mirror. What's purple heartwood? I still really think you should find a dark wood frame to coordinate with the tall dresser on the other side of the bed... And the fabric for the chair... the middle one on the bottom is, in my opinion, absolutely perfect!!!!!!! I know it's expensive, but it wouldn't take much fabric to recover this little chair The little jewelry box is cute - and coordinates with the fabric I want you to pick for your chair!! RE: Guest bedroom
I might be able to fit a luggage rack in the closet. Not much room for one anywhere else!! It's a small room -- about 10' x 11'.
OK, mirror goes back and jewelry box stays ![]() I really prefer the dark gray bedskirt -- it's more substantial and I like the little quilted squares. But if I keep the purple pillow shams, maybe I need to go with the purple bedksirt?? Recovering the headboard will be a tough sell -- you have no idea how many screws are holding the panels to the backing!!! The middle bottom fabric is my fave too. MAYBE if hubby and I can recover the chair ourselves, I can spring for the expensive fabric..... we shall see..... The silky gray pillow replaces the gray one that matched the comforter. I wanted to mix things up a bit, and this cushion isn't as wide so more of the purple cushions behind it show ![]() Purple heartwood is just that -- purple wood!!
