HOMESENSE
Do you shop at Homesense?

Is HS a go-to store for you or is it just one of many? What is usually your primary reason for shopping HS? Do you shop all of their depts or stick to one or two?

Can you over-shop HS for your home?

RE: HOMESENSE
I used to feel like a HS junkie. I seemed to be always stopping in to check out the "whole" store. I was at one point looking for rugs there but now I have discovered that ebay is a much better place for buying rugs. I still go there for good cotton sheets and I love to hit the liquidation part of the store to see what little gems I can find. I am a nut for white porcelain serving plates and medium to large bowls so I have picked up some nice ones there for a good deal. I also have a few great lamps that I got there on good deals. Here are just a few of my HS deals that I still love.

RE: HOMESENSE
For me it's usually my 'one of' stores but it's now one the first I hit just because they often have an interesting selection and better prices. Generally if I go I am looking for something specific so will hit whatever area that might be and if I am in the mood, may look in other areas, but that isn't the usual as shopping isn't my favourite thing to do.

Meanwhile since moving to this smaller city, it seems like most of the things I have been looking to replace I end up finding at HomeSense here. I've made a point of checking around other stores since I am new here, but there goes HomeSense with just what I was looking for in the end. That wasn't typical in Calgary, but here there seems to be a theme starting so now I've been heading there first.

RE: HOMESENSE
When I get into the city and there is one around I usually go and have a look but I don't have one close by so I only get to one about twice a year.

LIM that’s funny, HS junkie.........( i think some people are though...lol)

HS is definitely a go - to store for me. One of my first stops for linens, towels and soaps. I have bought so many books there I’ve lost count. I check out the candles too although RH is my fav store for that. We actually found Barbara Barry candles though one time.
I’ve had great luck with their rugs and have a storage room full of their pillows.....Biggrin

What I don’t buy into is the plethora of ‘art’, wall hangings and duplicated by the tens of hundreds accessories. Nothing worse that walking into a room and thinking that its a HOMESENSE room. I have bought many an accessory from HS but you have to be careful and pick out only the best and mix it with items from other sources.
What prompted this thread was just that, I bought the most beautiful piece (wall hanging) the other day, (from a different vendor) mixed it with a HS carpet and side table and you’d never notice how much high and low was actually in that room.

LIM, I love the vignette in your 1st photo. I saw the coolest tripod lamp the other day....I have the same lamps in your second photo in my guest room!

Lacombe, post your space, I’m sure we’d all like to see it.

I actually have a painting in that vignette that I absolutely adore. My taste in paintings tends to be with original art that has a touch of whimsy incorporated into the piece. I no longer purchase pieces of art that are not "original" but of course that makes the search for pieces that I love and can afford all that more challenging. I have found several artists that I love on ebay and through the painting a day gallery. So, like you, I do not buy art at HS.
Interesting enough, when I bought that tripod lamp it was in the liquidation section and since then I have seen it in photos and most recently in a video with the decorator Cameron? from H&H. He has it in one of his rooms.

I would love to see some peoples finds as well.
Sweetie, my HS does not have books. They have diaries and the such but that is all.

That’s too bad about ‘no books’. In the BC stores you can purchase hardcovers on just about and for everything. I even bought my copy of Margaret Russell’s Style and Substance best seller there!

I’ve just discovered studioliving (?) at HS. Not sure what that is. I was trying to find an address of one of the stores and stumbled across the advertisement for it. I’ve never heard of it before..........I’ll be finding out though!

I totally agree with you on art purchases. It’s not about famous artists or gallery pieces, its about originality and what speaks to you personally. I have bought paintings on ebay too. A great resource for amazing art and up and coming artists and artisans. I bought a metal sculpture on ebay for above my f/place in the LR and I love it.

I like the tripod lamps too. You lucked out on the clearance one! I think it takes a while for the masses to catch on sometimes Cool.
The H&H photo was probably taken months before it was published, now after its been spotted in a mag, there’s the requisite rush to get what you-already-got.....Biggrin

Further to the discussion on art, I had the pleasure of meeting this artist today. Beautiful work. Check out wolcoski.ca.

RE: HOMESENSE
I'm a HS junkie but...lol I only try to only buy stuff there that doesn't look like it comes from there. There's nothing worse than seeing a room where everything in it is from there. I think it's like any high/low technique...mix and match the more expensive pieces with the lesser but make sure they don't "looK" lesser. My house is full of HS stuff and if clients want to do some of their own shopping, I'll encourage them to check it out but if I'm doing the accessorizing then I try to keep the HS pieces to a minimum and use our wholesale vendors for pieces that they won't see in all their friends homes...
