Moved the Q and added some words... what do you think??

What if I use three colours for the letters -- a lighter gray than the walls, a darker gray than the walls, and metallic silver??

Here's a slightly different version with less letters on the right side -- does it look more balanced now??

I was looking at the graphic when my student-intern came into my office - he said "Wow! That's great!"
I have to agree Cheesy Grin

How were you thinking of getting this graphic on the walls, Smoodgie?

One idea... find a paper that, when you write on one side it will leave a faint line on the other (like old carbon copy paper - only it's not black on the backside and won't smear black everywhere Razz). Trace out your letters/words and then - using this mock-up/plan as a guide - paint and paint and paint Cheesy Grin I KNOW I've seen paper like this used on TV for similar applications... but where to find it? I'd start with a paint supply shop.

Thanks for the suggestion, V -- I'll look into that idea Blue Thumbs Up

I put together the Ikea cabinet tonight. Only attached one part backwards Cheesy Grin All that's left to do is attach the tracks that the sliding door slides on:

I think I need to lower the mirror -- although that'll put it really low. ANd I need to clean it -- it's dusty!! The stuff on the shelves isn't staying there, I just shoved it inside the cabinet.

And how's this for the perfect little accessory for the room Blue Thumbs Up

Hubby saw it at a store in Bruges and thought it was cool -- you can't tell in the picture, but the design is a hologram. Ignore the messy paint job -- that's just primer on the baseboard!! Embarrassed

What's with your cutting on that paint job???!!!
Kidding Cheesy Grin OMG

Perfect wastepaper basket!!!! How cool the DH was thinking about you and your project Icon_smile

The Ikea cabinet is looking good Blue Thumbs Up

As for getting your letters/words on the wall... I like your idea (your inspiration room's owner's method) to use an overhead projector; tracing everything on the wall.

Will you use high and low sheen paint on your letters as well as light and dark?

YOU ARE TOO PICKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wink

I don't worry about being neat till it matters -- otherwise, it would take me FOREVER to paint a room!!! I'm the sloppiest painter you've ever seen, but my final results are pretty darn good if I do say so myself Cheesy Grin

Hubby must have ESP -- he bought the trash can 2 years ago!!!

Just like you -- you replied to my post before I posted it!! Wink OK, I deleted it because I had to take anew screen cap of the image and I hate having that little "edit my" note at the bottom of a post. So here it is again:

I prefer the serif font too. Which is unusual for me, because I ALWAYS use Arial. I don't like the curly bits on Times New Roman letters. But in this case, the letters are more like art, so I think the serif font works better. But yes, the sans serif font will be much easier to trace and paint. What to do, what to do.... I guess it has a more modern look too, which is what I'm going for in the office.

Hey, you deleted your pre-emptive reply to my post!! Put it back!!!!

Oh, about the sheen -- I was going to use semi-gloss for the lighter letters and matte for the darker letters. But I have enough leftover paint that I can use to paint the letters. So instead of buying two little cans of paint, I'll use what I have. I can add glaze to one colour to give it some extra sheen, but the second colour will have to be eggshell. Unless there's some way to make eggshell paint look matte?? I Don't Know

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
I just saw a post from you showing a graphic with different font... what happened to it?

BTW... I prefer the original serif font you used, BUT I feel that the new san-serif font will be much easier to paint!!
Ahh... that explains what happened... I thought I was seeing things EEK

You ARE a good painter - your rooms always look great! Cheesy Grin

How COOL that DH found that basked 2 years ago!!

Note - the font on the basket is a san-serif font...

BTW... instead of Times, try Garamond for a serif font. It's smaller, but nicer.
Why do my new posts keep getting attached to my previous posts?!
I'm not sure I like it... hmmm...

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
I deleted my pre-emptive post because I was confused about it being part of my previous post... very wierd new feature.

Nope... can't make a matte from an eggshell.
Using the glaze to one colour will definitely give you the sheen you want, though Icon_smile
See the hard line in my posts? The messages below these lines were posted individually, not added to original posts (i.e., edited to add).

I was suggesting garamond as a times alternative in documents... I'm not a fan of Ariel in a document - it's great for signs and graphics Icon_smile I like it in your graphic, but still think you should go with a san-serif font. And, as I posted above, your new basket is in a san-serif font! Cheesy Grin
This only seems to happen when I post after my own post - it attaches the messages. It's not a bad idea, but my concern is that readers may miss our new posts if they think they're part of a previous post.

Unless... this is only happening on my computer? Can you confirm that you're seeing the lines and successive posts on your computer?

Hi tangotori, your posts were auto-merged because you made consecutive posts within a one-hour timeframe. Its a new feature that saves screen space, prevents bumping, strain on the system and makes your dinner if you ask it nicely....Wink

I thought it was a good idea, but if everyone hates auto-merge it can easily be disabled.

Smoodgie these all look sooo cool. I'm already jealous of you. On a side note, I once read about these wallpaper places that actually print your images on wallpaper for you. Sounds like pretty intense stuff to me, something to look into.

The best way to get ahead is to get started.
