Creating an inspiring home office

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
Does the chair come with a matching ottoman? The reason I ask is - while I really like the style of this chair - I KNOW that my shorty legs would dangle... not fun when you want to be comfy when reading.

Whew -- trim in the office is primed. Man, I hate doing that kind of painting Wall

I'll start painting the walls tomorrow, and then paint the trim after the walls are done. My reasoning is that I don't know what colour the trim will be (white or the lightest gray I use on the letter wall), so I don't want to paint the trim till I decide that, which I can't do till the walls are painted. And, I want to see the wall colour against white trim instead of the orangey colour that the trim was before. So that's why I primed.

I painted a little test patch of the gray. It looks quite light. If it's still light after it dries, I think I'll take the paint back to Rona and ask them to re-tint it to the next darker colour on the chip.

I don't think the HM chair comes with an ottoman. But it's adjustable in about 64 different ways, one of them being up and down. So it works with shorty legs too Icon_smile

In my mind, Smoodgie, I see the trim at the ledge in the same colour as the walls... AND I see the letters painted up onto the trim. Do you know what I mean?
The base moulding should be white, I think - that would look great against the gray. Cheesy Grin

I'm curious... do you have a plan for the letters (apart from colour/sheen)? Which ones will be big, medium & small? Actually, will you do letters or words?

Think about taking your letters up onto the upper wall... I personally think it will look even better. And it would be cool if an M (let's say) is partly on the bottom and partly on the top, especially if it's at an angle. If you do this, don't paint the letter onto the flat section of the shelf - end it at the top of the moulding and then carry on the bottom of the top wall. Try one or two letters like this and see what you think... you can always paint over them if you don't like it. Cheesy Grin

I'm looking forward to seeing the results!!

Good idea, but I don't think I want to paint letters above the ledge Embarrassed It's more work than I want to do!! And by the time the room is done and filled up, I think a good part of the upper walls will be covered with stuff on the ledge anyway.

Not sure how I'll do th letters -- here's the inspiration that was the inspiration for the room that I'm using as my inspiration room:

I'm still planning to do the letters in similar shades of gray. Not sure how I'll lay them out -- I'll play around with Adobe Illustrator and see what I can come up with. I also have a wall that Sarah R. did in mind. Did you see the episode where she did a private box at the Skydome in TO?? I like the way she laid out the words on the walls. Of course, she used stencils, but I could probably do something similar with paint. Man, I'm going to need a LOT of patience to get this project done!!

On a totally different note -- hubby and I went to the lumber store today to pick out some wood for the skirting for the desk. The guy at the lumber store had a lot of good suggestions about how to make it, and we ended up deciding to go with wood legs as well as skirting. So I'll bring the metal legs back to Ikea. I picked walnut, and there was a piece of purple heartwod that I HAD to get!! I want to incorporate it into the legs & skirting somehow.

And, I saw a black console at Costco today that might work better than the storage unit I bought at Ikea. It costs $50 more, so not a huge difference.

I have a couple of chandeliers from Home Depot in mind -- I'll also have a floor lamp and a couple of table lamps, so there should be enough light in the room.

The black & white damask chair at HS was on hold when I went to check it out again on Saturday. And I looked at some desk chairs today, but none of them turned my crank.

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
I just had a brainstorm. The stained glass piece that used to hang in the dining room -- I can use it as a "window covering" in the office. It's just about the right size -- it's a bit longer and narrower than the window, but maybe the size can be modified a bit. The one drawback would be that I probably won't be able to open the window -- but it'll be decorative as well as functional as a window covering, and best of all, it's FREE!!! Blue Thumbs Up I'd probably sand down and repaint the frame.

I'll take another pic tomorrow with the light coming through it.

And what about these lamps -- the small one is from HS, the tall one was in the DR along with its mate.

Oh, and I'm thinking of buying chandelier:

Here's my first attempt at creating the lettering for the office walls. It's going to wrap around the corner somewhere around the middle of the K. where that'll happen.

Let me know what you think. It still needs work, but I'm happy with how it's coming along.

Did you notice that I spelled the word "wish" in the upper left corner?? Icon_smile

Smoodgie... it's fantastic!!
Would you be able to incorporate any other words into the graphic? I see a d and a near one another... I might be able to make the word "dare" as in dare to dream.

The desk plans sound great... looking forward to seeing what Mr. Smoo does Cheesy Grin

Lamps... not sure I like the tall lamp in the room. I quite like the shade on the little lamp, but the lamp may be too small. It's tough to say without the furniture it'll relate too.

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
Thanks!! I added a few more letters -- now the whole alphabet is included Icon_smile

It's hard to make words, 'cause of the shapes of the different letters -- I'm placing them based on shape more than anything. WISH just sort of happened Icon_smile But I'll see what I can do.

Any other word suggestions??

Oh, I just realized that I see the word FUN!! Can you see it??

Yes I can!!!! Yay!
How fun is that???!!! (my lame attempt at a pun)

Well... actually I see "FTUN" Razz
Teasing!!

Hey... not sure if this will work, but can I suggest you pull the Q over a bit? You've got a lot of letters at the right of your graphic, but fewer just left of it.
