RE: Creating an inspiring home office
If you're going to furnish with black and accessorize with green, I would go with the one on the right............

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
I think you're both right. And after finding some beautiful purple desk accessories at Chapters, I think I'm switching from bright green to plummy purple as my accent colour
In the meantime, I went on a reconnaissance mission to Ike this morning Damn, that place is insane!!! It opens at 10:00, I got there at 10:05, and it was already packed!! Here are some pieces I thought could work. First are some desk ideas...My fave is the Vika -- the top is glass with words etched into it in all different languages -- très cool and à propos, I think Hard to see in the picture, but use your imagination I like this bookcase -- I could use it to hold books as well as knicknacks. I'm thinking of putting mirrored tiles in some of the squares to add some sparkle and interest.... Another storage unit option.... I think a wall cabinet might be another good storage option, seeing as it doesn't take up any floor space. These aren't great pics, but the best I could find on the Ikea web site. The 2nd one comes with frosted glass doors that open upwards. A couple of desk lamps (the second one comes in chrome, which would be my choice): And finally, a large piece of artwork Let me know what you think!! People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
I like desk #2. I like storage #2. #1 storage is mess waiting to happen, too many holes for clutter to collect. Don't care for the wall storage, do they have anything open? I'd prefer a lamp for task lighting.
Love the print but it won't work with the carpet........ |

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
OK, feedback noted
Good point about the open storage -- I like the style of the one with the sliding door and drawers. It's actually a TV bench, but it'll work in the office, I think. Here are the accessories I picked up today. The lamp is small, but cute and the colour of the shade works, I think. The black box with the silver cover has a metal frame inside to hang file folders from. I think it's prettier than a filing cabinet, yes?? And cheaper too Thoughts?? RE: Creating an inspiring home office
When I mentioned an accent colour in my post yesterday, I was seriously considering suggesting purple because I know how much you love it. But then I thought that it wouldn't be great with the blues in the rug. Today, with the pictures you've provided showing the rug with your new accessories, I say... yes, I think it'll work! I still think that a bright green would have been best - but this is YOUR room and you're crazy about purple. If it works (and it does), do it!!
![]() As for the desks... I like your Vika choice (and not because it sounds a little like my name I like the console table for storage. If you like the boxy shelves, why not consider the Lack and ONLY use it for pretty stuff (i.e., no clutter allowed)? Looks like you're having lots of fun planning out this room re-do! Sorry about the desk thing.......I thought #2 was the same as 3
If you can't zebra, you might as well have SNAKE. The color looks fine on my monitor, a little variety is good too. |

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
Okay, sorry but here comes the voice of practicality. I love the lamp but hope you are still getting something else for task lighting. You also need to consider accessbility to books, editing guides etc. I would look at what you need for your writing and then see what will be the best way to store those materials.

RE: Creating an inspiring home office
Of COURSE I'll be working in the space -- that's the whole reason why I'm creating a home office for myself!!
![]() donna, yes, I have another lamp for the desk. I realized this afternoon that I have a halogen lamp that -- errrrrr -- followed me home when I got laid off from Nortel It's black, but seeing I have it I may as well use it. Anyway, there's black in the carpet, so that'll tie in OK.Hey, do you want to know what hell looks like?? Well, I'll tell you -- it has a beige tiled floor and crazy zigzagging aisles that make it take forever to get to where you want to go. And then when you want to go back to somewhere you've already been, you have to fight your way through thousands of people all walking right at you. And then of course you miss the shortcut and have to take the long way HOLY CRAP Ikea is INSANE!!!!!!! EVerything I bought better work, 'cause I don't want to go back there for a very long time!!!! ![]() So, I bought the low storage unit. I'll be able to store books on the right side and pens and other stuff in the drawers on the left side. More boooks can go on the ledge if I run out of room -- but I don't think I will. The box I got at HomeSense that holds hanging file folders can go on top of the storage unit. I got the glass sliding door with the aluminium frame for the storage unit. The description for the door says that you can slip fabric or wallpaper between the glass and the backing to personalize it. I also bought the glass table top that I wanted and legs -- but the legs don't actually work with the glass top. I really wanted the glass top but it only comes with boxes or trestles for the base. So hubby is going to make a frame that the legs will attach to and the glass will sit on top of it. So I guess the next step is to clear out the room and start painting. Ugh!! People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do. |
