Hehehehe!! Sorry about that!! Cheesy Grin

You should bring a cabinet door with you to the granite place so you can hold it up against the different types of granite and see which ones look best. Do you have any leftover floor tiles you could bring too??

Great suggestion, Smoodgie... yes, we can bring both a door and a tile with us. We'll also bring the granite sample I have. Hopefully we'll be going soon!! We're waiting to hear from the counter guy so that we know which warehouse he wants us to go to (he mentioned two... maybe we go to both?). I'm hoping to hear from him today.

Nice to meet you, too, Teucer!

Thanks... I really appreciate the kudos!!
As for my new sink... I'm having a love affair with it!!! I'm a little worried about how the sink will look when the counter is installed - it's undermounted and the granite will be thick... oh well... not much I can do about it now! I Don't Know

Thanks Teucer! I really enjoyed laying this floor. I've completed a few tiling projects, with some terrific floor patterns... I had to compete with myself or be board! Cheesy Grin

I'd love to!!!
Sweetie invited me to post pics of our condo remodel... we did a lot there... I didn't want to hog "forum time" so I've been waiting a bit. In about a week - when I'm going through posting-pic-withdraw EEK - I'll start a new thread and share our projects.

This forum is so much fun!!

RE: Countdown on... to a new kitchen!
Hmmmm... counter tops...
We've had two $4300 quotes (not including taxes). Yikes!
I finally tracked down the granite cutter guy (Robert) that my interior designer friend turned me on to (the guy who cut our master bathroom granite)... he's agreed to come by this afternoon to measure and provide a quote. I'm hoping he'll come significantly under these other two quotes!

I've also pretty much decided on a backsplash tile... well, the accent part anyway. It's very expensive tile - about $25 a sq.ft - so that's why we're using it as an accent. It's so beautiful, though!! It's a little 1x1 inch mosiac tile that looks like shell. I wish I had taken a photo of it... maybe I'll drop by the tile shop tomorrow and take a pic. I'm looking at pairing it up with a taupe-coloured subway tile (some period charm) with a matte finish (contemporary looking). I'll take a pic of the two together and you can tell me what you think.

Well... I had better get to work since I'm leaving early to meet RGG (Robert the Granite Guy!).

RE: Countdown on... to a new kitchen!
So RGG came by this afternoon... interesting visit! As I mentioned earlier, we have two quotes in hand - one was made sight unseen (based on drawings with measurements) and the other was measured by the granite-cutter's representative (i.e., not an expert) - the deal is that the cutter we choose will come in to prepare an accurate template before they cut. Anyway, RGG IS the cutter, so he was talking to me about all my options, the challenges of the job (and there are a few!) and so on. Like I said... interesting!

So challenges...
There's going to have to be a join - the question is where... and the where depends on how I want the granite cut around the sink.
If I want the granite surrounding the sink to be contoured around the back corners, I have to have a join in a major part of the counter (on the other side of the diswasher). If I go for a clean, non-contoured cut (i.e., squared corners), I can have the join at one corner of the sink so that the large piece over the dishwasher and the around the far corner can be one large piece. This is likely the option I will choose cause I don't want a join in a large piece - the graining will be disrupted. It's just that the sink would look better with the other contoured option. Oh well... I wanted a apron-fronted sink, so I have to deal with the design challenges that come with it!

(hope all the above makes sense!)

RGG wants me to go and pick out my slab tomorrow so that he can work his quote! I'll take pics and post them so you can see what I choose... or so that you can help me choose!!

What kind of stove is that? I really want to get a new stove and
get rid of this glass top stove that I detest!!!!!KickWall
Is that one you would recommend. I want to go gas, well actually it will
have to be propane-hook up. I love to cook and glasstop just doesn't cut it!!

Kitchen is going to be fabulous!!
