Well, that's more good news than bad news!! Have you decided what colour granite you're going to get??

Leaning toward something like the cecilia classico (below)... but we'll take a trip to the granite warehouse (I love going to the granite place!!!) to actually pick out our granite. Our flooring was choosen with the cecilia classico in mind...

I can't wait for it all to come together!

That looks like the same granite a friend of mine has in her kitchen. It's very nice Icon_smile

I wish we had a granite place here. We only have boring stores Sleep

Just had a chance to read this in it's entirety. You've TOTALLY made the right decision. Another 4 weeks in waiting for the right piece is well worth it.
I am guilty of wanting to button things up right away. Instant gratification.........Never works out the way you hope and then there's regret.
On the positive side, you've discovered that the glass knobs are the right choice, better now than 2 holes later.....Cheesy Grin

RE: Countdown on... to a new kitchen!
I too have just read this read in its entirety. Funny how opinions differ - I have knobs on doors and handles on drawers - on reflection I would have had handles on all - I prefer them!!! Only found this out of course after all were installed and holes drilled so too late to change now.

I think I have that granite along with Sweetie( have seen hers in situ and looks good) but mine was called Cecilia something else! To tell you the truth, I am a bit sick of that granite now - it seems EVERYONE has it - I personally know of at least 10 people that have it in North Van, West Van and Toronto. If I had my time over again, I would go for black or white with a grey marbelized effect (grey of course would not work in your kitchen). Now that I have ruined the granite choice, (bear in mind I have it ...), it really is very pretty ... And I do like it ... really ... of course, I am potentially already planning my new home somewhere hot ... possibly Pasadena ...

Hello Everyone Icon_smile

Sweetie... yep, I think we made the right decision, too. I don't mind waiting an additional 4 weeks for the replacement cabinet if it means that our custom kitchen is "custom". We're really pretty lucky that, of all the cabinets that could be damaged, it was the one whose size I was worried about back in the design stage.

Instant gratification... I can totally relate! Generally I'm the kind of person who makes a decision and wants an immediate result! Of course, the realities of home remodeling have forced me to curb that characteristic Wink

Smoodgie... as promised, I'm attaching a pic of the Lee Valley glass knobs:

I love this knob!!
But I've been thinking about it all day and I've decided that having these knobs on all the cabinet doors would be just too much. So... I've decided to keep with handles for all doors and drawers, using the glass knobs on the glass doors only. Here's a pic of the handle:

Caro... I'm not 100% sold on the Cecelia... in fact, I'm concerned that the background is too gold. What I'd like is something with the similar veining in browns & reds (with a little gold) in a creamish background. That's why DH and I are actually going to go and pick something out... we'll bring a floor-tile sample with us and pick the perfect slab!

Smoodgie... I love going to the granite store. Each piece (granite, marble & other stones) can be so unique and individual - particularly with the more rare slabs. Some of them look like abstract art that should be hung on a wall. Beautiful!

So... SIG should be here tomorrow! As I was walking through the obstical course that is my kitchen this evening I found myself stopping at each cabinet and imagining where it will go. I'm so impressed with the quality of the cabinets - the solid-wood doors are amazing! It'll be great to come home from work tomorrow evening to see how far SIG and his helper make it on my kitchen install!

Chat with you all tomorrow... with pics!

I really like the handle -- the colour and style work so well with your cabinets. And the glass knob is pretty. I see your point about not over-doing the glass. And using it on only those two cabinet doors will make them stand out more and really make those glass doors "special", for laack of a better word.

Whenever Sarah R. goes to a stone store on Design Inc. I drool over all the amazing colour choices!!!! It really makes sense to go to a stone place and pick out the exact piece that you want -- seeing as no two pieces are alike, that way you know you're getting the exact colouration and veining that you want.

Not to throw a wrench into your plans, but.... have you considered other options for your countertops?? There are so many materials out there -- granite, quartz, soapstone, slate, corian, concrete......

Fingers crossed that SIG and his partner are healthy and ready to finish the install today!!!

I seem to remember one of our forum members - Cdngrl I think - had knobs on her all cupboards that appeared to be glass (can be hard to tell in a photo)... they looked terrific! BUT, I was struck by the contemporary nature and clean lines of her beautiful kitchen - elements that really allow the knobs to shine without overwhelming the overall look of the space. In my kitchen I have beadboard cupboards, tiffany lamps and other elements that, if not coordinated, will compete for attention. That's why I'm thinking that the glass knobs in my kitchen might be "too much". Besides, I want to bring in a few contemporary elements to modernize the space... so brushed nickle handles are it (and they go with the appliances Icon_smile)

In our last kitchen remodel I used silestone/quartz... it was wonderful! But it was a little more pricy then granite, believe it or not. The reason I opted to not go for quartz this time is that, while beautiful, I find the paterns too uniform. I'm really drawn to the unique nature of granite - the patern is always a little (or a lot, depending on the type) different in each piece... in fact, sometimes one part of the slab is different from another part. I like soapstone and slate but they require more maintainence then granite... and anytime I've ever seen these stones on a counter they've been darker. With my dark cabinets, I wanted to go a little lighter. As for corian & contrete... not something I'm really interested in (although I like both... just in different applications).

When we go to the stone store I'll keep my mind open and look at several different options, not just the granite... but don't be surprised if I choose granite!

Have a great day,
V

RE: Countdown on... to a new kitchen!
I really like the cupboards and its great that you are going to get the larger cabinet. I really like the handles you chose and they will work well with the style of the kitchen. We have the lee valley ones that you posted and they will look great on the glass doors. I would have preferred having handles on the drawers and knobs on the rest but i didn't see any handles that i really liked for our space and I was going for bling. Icon_smile I think the countetop would look great in your kitchen and since you said there isn't a lot of light in the space i would recommend sticking to the lighter colours. Your kitchen is coming along beautifully and i can't wait to see the finished product.
