Chandelier idea
My aunt has a chandelier in her dining room that I LOVE. I keep telling her I'm going to steal it Lone Ranger Lucky for her, it's too small for my DR or else I'd go through with my threat!! Cheesy Grin

Here's her chandelier:

I've tried EVERYTHING to get the same chandelier -- even sent a picture of it to the store in Italy where my aunt bought it and asked them if they still sell it. The letter came back "Address unknown" Sad

Hubby found this chandelier at Urban Outfitters:

I really like it, and it's not far off from my aunt's chandelier. And it's only $60. But it's small -- 13" diameter. I need a chandelier twice that diameter. So I have two ideas:

(1) Buy 3 of these chandeliers and hang them in a row above the DR table. This may require to go back up into the attic with his backpack to modify the wiring and drill a couple of holes -- something he swore he would never do again!!

(2) Buy 3 of these chandeliers and hubby uses the parts to make one big chandelier.

Do you think either idea would work?? Or do you have any other ideas?? I'm getting tired of looking for a chandelier and not finding anything I like or that will work Doh

This pretty chandeliere is kinda neat! The glass danglies look like long water drops Cheesy Grin
But I'm not sure what the answer is, Smoo... three across does sound cool and glam.
A concern (that might not be a concern) just occured to me, though... I thought that bulbs were changing to those swirley energy efficient ones... what happens when they no longer sell regular shaped light-bulbs?

RE: Chandelier idea
I agree with Sweetie, but there are so many different types of bulbs available these days that you might be able to get a nice chandelier bulb that would fit. I bought one actually for an outdoor fixture, and since I detest the look and the light from most of the energy-efficient models I found a frosted chandelier one that gives off great light and is energy efficient.
I love the drama that goes with a row of chandeliers. Cheesy Grin

Hey Smoodgie!

I was watching that new HGTV (US Only Sad) show on-line this evening. In the most recent episode they hung a wonderful chandelier that - I thought - might be perfect for your dining room. Shells!!!

I did an internet search and came up with these examples:
[Image: p_100163217.jpg] [Image: 41sQX1XQrwL__SS260_.jpg] [Image: 20080218-capizchandy_M1.jpg]

What I loved about this chandielier is that, when lit, I found it captured the "hollywood glam" mood that I know you want in your dining room. Take a look at the video on-line and see what I mean. Here's a link: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/pac_ctnt_988/te...59,00.html

They used a square version, but the shells were champaign in colour (more like #2 above). I like the shape of the ones I found (round), although #3 hangs on a horrible chain & hook thingy.

What do you think?

RE: Chandelier idea
Smoodgie, they sell these at Zone. You have one in Ottawa. I don't know what their model is like exactly but I saw them in their window about one month ago. West Elm had these for sale as well. They are quite inexpensive. The Zone window display had three of them in a row over a dining table and from a distance they looked great.

Check out West Elm, this is the same one I believe that they are selling at Zone.

Hmmmm..... I hadn't thought of hanging a capiz chandelier in the dining room..... hmmmm...... hmmmmm...... hmmmmm!!!!!! I think I'm liking this idea!! Icon_smile

Thanks for making the suggestion, V Icon_smile And it looks like it's getting a Blue Thumbs Up from everyone so far Icon_smile I really like the one in the link you posted, donna. I'll try to get to Zone this week and see it in person.

Does three in a row sound good?? The diameter of the one donna posted the link to is 16", so one wouldn't be big enough.

I'll have to wait till I get home to watch the video -- I'm at the cottage with a dial-up connection, and it is SLOW!!!! Sleep Sleep Sleep Sleep Sleep Sleep

BTW, you can buy cut glass light bulbs that are actually really pretty and I think would work great with the chandelier I originally posted.
