Bedroom Blahs
I need help with my bedroom!! The "vintage" waterbed headboard will be removed soon. I desperately need more pillows and a bedskirt. Possibly new sheets as well!! The bed has to stay where it is because of the baseboard heater under the window and I am petrified of fire (too many kids, not enough arms!). Hubby and I like the paint, but I have been told by all who have seen it that it is too dark. I am definitely a novice with decorating, but I think my style is casual.

Any suggestions?

RE: Bedroom Blahs
Is there a specific casual style that you like -- contemorary, country, rustic...?? What colours do you like best?? Do you want to go light and airy or dark and dramatic??

Do you have a HomeSense near you?? They always have great throw cushions -- that would be a good starting point for the style and colours for your bedroom.

I've learned from experince to paint last, not first -- and even then I've managed to screw up!! Embarrassed So start with cushions, bedding, etc., and then select a wall colour from the soft furnishings.

Can you post pics of some rooms that you like?? They don't have to be bedrooms -- any room that has the look and feel that you like.

People that think they know everything seriously annoy those of us that actually do.

Hello Barefoot and welcome!

IMHO I think your paint is too dark for the space. I like the idea of a new headboard. You need to start with bedding that you love. The rest will fall into place. I agree with smoodgie that paint comes last. Your side tables are a tad low and small for a kingsize bed.
I love your window and the blinds are a nice neutral. Your low dresser is very nice. You might want to reposition it as we go along.
Are you thinking casual contemporary or casual traditional?

Welcome to Homeundone. Believe me, this place will help you out.
I think it is a good idea to show what you like...seems like a good place to start so people know your taste.

Where do you look for sample rooms? The more I think about it, country sounds nice - a (darker - not light) wooden head board with some matching furniture. My favourite colour is hunter green, but I don't want a dark room. Since the walls are already blue, lightening them up would be ok. But I think the bedding I love must come first. That will determine the colour.

RE: Bedroom Blahs
Hi Barefoot... welcome,

Go to Google and, on the top of their webpage you'll find different places you can search (i.e., Web, Images, Maps, News...). Click on Images, then in the search field type words like "bedroom" or "bed" or "headboard" or "contemporary bedroom" or "country bedroom" (or what ever words come to mind)... press enter... you'll find a whole lot of photos of bedrooms. Browse to your heart's content Cheesy Grin.

Create a file on your desktop (or in "my documents"... your choice) called "bedroom inspiration"... then, when you come across a bedroom that you like, right click on the image, scroll down to where it says "save picture as" - navigate to your new file and then hit save. Once you have a few that you like, post them on the forum for us to see. That would really help generate dialogue about your bedroom!

Good luck...

Thank you Tangotori! A whole new world has now opened up for me!! Sweetie that is a perfect room, it looks just like the ones in my new "Bedroom Inspirations" folder. I actually like yours better, my examples have a bit more furniture than I think I need (or want).

I really like the first and last. The flowers are a bit busy for me. I went for a quick peek at HS and L&T yesterday. Liz Claiborne has a nice set on clearance, but then I walked around. I went back and realized I didn't like the texture as much as the stuff I saw from Nautica. I really like the clean lines.
